Videotron Launches 2.5 Gbps Symmetrical Internet Plan

Videotron has rolled out a new high-speed internet plan offering symmetrical download and upload speeds of 2.5 Gbps.
Its GIGA internet service is now available in several regions of Québec, including Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Montérégie, Québec City, Lanaudière, the Laurentians, Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean, Bas-Saint-Laurent, and Côte-Nord.
The plan uses Videotron’s fibre network and is aimed at households with heavy internet use—like those working from home, uploading large files, or streaming and gaming online. Because the speeds are symmetrical, upload performance matches download speeds.
“We are proud to take innovation to the next level with our 2.5 GIGA plan, which delivers on our ongoing commitment to always give our customers more,” says Jean B. Péladeau, Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of Videotron, on Wednesday. “This new fibre-powered plan is a big plus for customers who need a high-performance two-way connection.”
The new 2.5 Gbps plan is available anywhere Videotron’s full fibre network reaches. Customers can check availability at their address on Videotron’s website.
Update: A Videotron spokesperson told iPhone in Canada the monthly pricing is $75 per month for 2.5 Gbps internet and works with current Helix gateways (XB7).
Last week, Videotron announced its GIGA internet plans had expanded to reach 350,000 more homes.

This is great news, I've been waiting for this for a long time!
Unfortunately it's still not available in my area it seems… only the old 1Gbps is.
I wonder if it'll be compatible with the current Helix router, or if we'll need to update once more…
Will you notice any practical difference going from 1 Gbps to 2.5? Honestly curious.
Maybe not for download, but going from 50mbps to 2.5gbps for upload is going to be very noticeable!
Anyone uploading videos or using OneDrive or similar will benefit from this.
Just got an update. Current Helix gateways (XB7) will support the new plan 🙂
Faster internet means faster ads popping up on your browser. 🤣
