Freedom Mobile’s $40 Global Plan Ends Today: Is This the Best Travel Deal Ever?

Freedom Mobile dropped a huge deal on Friday, offering a $40/250GB global roaming plan that ends today. Essentially, this is one plan to end all plans for travellers as coverage extends to 120 destinations with 50GB/month in roaming data and talk and text.

This bring your own phone plan ends today, March 9, and Freedom Mobile says after discounts it works out to be 50% off its best plan.

People switching to the plan including those on Reddit have said they have jumped ship from similarly priced plans from Rogers, Telus and Bell. Existing customers can also switch to this plan in-store and also via online customer service chat options (iMessage, WhatsApp, etc). Hilariously, one thread was titled, “Is Freedom Drunk” over the promo, with comments on the plan nearing 500 total, which is high engagement.

Now, there are caveats with this Freedom Mobile plan. Some are claiming coverage is spotty in their area outside major cities, while others pointed out the lack of roaming coverage for places such as Argentina, Eygpt, Morocco, Kenya, Ethiopia, Jordan, Slovakia, Nepal and Laos.

Still though, this plan is better than the ‘deals’ we saw during Black Friday. If you travel frequently outside of Canada this will save you lots in roaming charges compared to Rogers, Telus and Bell (you can always use eSIM data to save).

Telus prepaid brand Public Mobile tried to “match” this offer with a $50/250GB plan, but it only includes US and Mexico roaming.

Did you switch over to this $40 global roaming plan from Freedom Mobile?
