Freedom Mobile customers who recently jumped on the provider’s $40 for 250GB global roaming plan should take a close look at their first statement.
Several subscribers have told iPhone in Canada that promised discounts are missing from their initial bills, leading to much higher charges than expected.
Rather than the advertised $40 monthly price, some users are seeing a base charge of $85 for the Total Freedom plan that includes 50GB of monthly roaming data. While a $5 digital discount is being applied, a crucial $40 credit is absent for many. This error effectively doubles the monthly cost for the plan.
The credit should be on your first bill and not the second bill, confirmed customer service agents.
If your statement shows an $80 balance instead of the expected $40, you should contact Freedom Mobile customer service right away. Reaching out through their message-based support or calling in directly has allowed many to have the missing credit applied manually to their account.
The $40 for 250GB global plan is one of the best cellphone plans we’ve seen, but it was only available for a short time and ended yesterday.

…and its just this sort of thing that should discourage anyone from granting a provider direct and automatic access to your bank account via ‘Digital Discounts’. Its much harder to challenge billing errors (done with monotonous regularity) if they’ve already taken the money.
If a company can’t offer you the same price as with these auto-withdrawal plans, challenge it or look elsewhere.
