Google Health Is Now Available in Canada and the Fitbit App Is No More
The Fitbit app is officially gone, so it’s time to pour one out. As of yesterday, it has been replaced by Google Health in the App Store in Canada, marking the end of an era for the fitness tracking brand Google acquired back in 2021.
The new app consolidates fitness, sleep, and wellness tracking under one roof, with Google’s Gemini AI doing a lot of the heavy lifting. It syncs with Fitbit devices, Pixel Watch, and third-party health apps, and can connect to medical records in select countries.
On the fitness side, users can get personalized workout plans tailored to specific goals like weight loss, muscle building, or improving cardio. You tell the app about your preferences and routines, and it builds a long-term plan with daily workout recommendations and progress tracking.
Sleep gets a dedicated focus too, as it analyzes nightly sleep stages, identifies long-term trends, and can generate a personalized sleep schedule complete with bedtime reminders and mindfulness exercises. Google says the sleep insights are powered by an improved algorithm designed to help users pinpoint what’s disrupting their rest.
Beyond fitness and sleep, Google Health tracks nutrition, menstrual cycles, and general wellness metrics, sending notifications that highlight trends and flag achievements based on your individual baselines. Women’s health features let users track their menstrual cycle and understand how each phase affects their day-to-day routine.
The rebrand arrives just days before the launch of the Fitbit Air next week. As of May 19, Fitbit users now have to transition over to a Google account. The download for the Google Health app didn’t come until two days later.
Some of the more advanced features, including the AI coaching tools, are locked behind a Google Health Premium subscription and are only available in certain countries.
You can click here to download the Google Health in the App Store. Or, just go to Updates in the App Store and you’ll see it appear for the Fitbit app.
