In the second edition of his weekly Power On newsletter, Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman said that the 6th-generation iPad mini “should be a go” for a launch later this fall (via 9to5Mac).
The 2021 iPad mini has been a regular at the rumour mill since last year, with early reports pointing towards a March launch. Renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said in May that the iPad mini 6 would be delayed to later this year.
The next iteration of the device is expected to feature a major design overhaul, with a larger screen, slimmer bezels, the possibility of the Home button being removed, and a design language similar to that of the latest iPad Air — what Gurman says will be “the biggest redesign in the nine-year history” of the iPad mini.
The last iPad mini launched in 2019, with an A12 Bionic SoC under the hood and the addition of True Tone and Apple Pencil support. The next iPad mini has been reported to feature one of Apple’s latest processors, making the A13 Bionic a prime candidate.
Gurman also noted in his newsletter that development on a larger-screened iMac powered by Apple Silicon to replace the 27-inch Intel-powered iMac is well underway. We might even see Apple up the screen size, possibly to 32 inches.
The upcoming iMac is likely to feature the next generation of Apple Silicon, tentatively being referred to as the M1X (or M2X) — the same as the 2021 MacBook Pro rumoured to be launched this September.
