LG Said to Become Largest iPhone 6 Display Panel Supplier

Supply chain sources speaking with the Chinese Feng suggest LG Display has landed a major display order from Apple this year, as it is said to be the largest provider of iPhone 6 display panels. The Korean company beat Samsung, Sharp, and Japan Display to earn the top spot, the Chinese media reports, as noticed by GforGames.

Reuters reported in March that iPhone 6 displays would be supplied by LG, Japan Display, and Sharp; but a couple of months later, Chinese United Daily News‘ sources claimed that Apple is in talks with Innolux for a potential collaboration.

Also, the same report mentioned that Apple had dropped Samsung from the list of display suppliers, and it doesn’t mention Sharp, so we may conclude that the manufacturer has fallen out of grace with Apple. But since it is an unconfirmed rumour, it would be an early conclusion.

Today’s report doesn’t go into details, but analysts predict a massive 70–80 million iPhone order for this year.

Apple is expected to unveil two iPhone 6 models this year: 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch models. Rumours of sapphire glass have been silenced lately by reports of manufacturing issues, but the iPhone 6 is rumoured to sport other notable features such as a faster LTE-A modem, an NFC chip, and improved fingerprint sensor, among others.
