iPhone 8 to Allow Siri Activation Through Sleep/Wake Button: REPORT

With Apple iPhone 8, one big change expected is a full frontal OLED display. This also means the home button on the iPhone 8 will be gone forever. So how will users activate Siri on the iPhone 8 with no home button on the front?

According to a new report from MacRumors, developer Guilherme Rambo, who has already unearthed details about the iPhone 8 and other coming Apple products like the HomePod and a 4K Apple TV, claims to have found a “gesture to invoke Siri by holding the lock button.”

“Apple’s radically redesigned iPhone does away with the Home button entirely, relying instead on a new gestural interface that includes a “software bar” along the bottom of the screen and an app dock similar to the one found in iOS 11 on iPad,” reads the report.

The Brazilian developer has previously found several details of upcoming Apple products in the company’s beta software, including references to a 4K Apple TV in tvOS 11 as well as references in early HomePod firmware to some features widely expected in the company’s upcoming OLED iPhone.

Apple’s iPhone 8 will be officially announced on September 12, as the company has already sent out invites confirming an upcoming event taking place at the brand-new Steve Jobs Theater. Along with the iPhone 8, the iPhone 7S, iPhone 7S Plus and the new Apple TV 4K and an Apple Watch 3 with LTE support are also expected to be announced at the event.
