More tidbits about Apple’s next iPhones are coming out of the leaked iOS 11 GM, with developer Steve Troughton-Smith again discovering more details about the company’s next smartphones.
According to T-S, the OLED iPhone X and iPhone 8 Plus will have 3GB of RAM, while the iPhone 8 will have 2GB of RAM. For reference, iPhone 7 has 2GB of RAM while iPhone 7 Plus has 3GB of RAM.
These exact numbers match what TrendForce claimed back in February, according to its supply chain sources.
iOS 11 GM leaked late Friday, and so far the devastating leak has revealed the names of new models, with the OLED version set to include a True Tone display, new AirPods, new LTE Apple Watch, “Face ID” recognition, animated emoji, 4K Apple TV resolution and streaming requirements, and the upcoming six-core A11 chip.
According to the BBC, the leak was from an internal Apple source, which many suspect was a deliberate move, made days before the company’s special event on September 12.

3 GB of RAM is very embarrassing. Each iOS update consumes more RAM and more things are running in the background.
Compared to Android apps, the same apps for iOS are typically 2 or more times larger and they stay resident in the RAM. You need more RAM especially for multItasking and to ensure apps don’t crash or force close.
Besides. Regardless of the efficiency of iOS memory swapping, the new iPhone will have the same amount of RAM as the iPhone 7+. This is absurd especially since the Note 8 has 6 GB of RAM and the the fact the iPhone X will be very expensivel. The iPhone 8 and X should come with no less than 4 GB of RAM
One thing to keep in mind is that beginning with iOS 11, iOS will be 64-bit only. So none of the 32-bit code / baggage that will be holding back performance.

Apple has never needed to compete on specs…the Note 8 struggles to compete with the iPhone 7 Plus, the iPhone X will have no trouble.
Specs are important but real world performance is what counts. However, Apple has always lagged behind in terms of RAM . While this may not be important to grandma who has an iPhone, for many others like me who multitask and have many apps open at the same time, it’s an issue.
The reason the Note 8 et al struggle has a lot to do with the Android OS especially manufacturer bloatware.. Unlike Apple though, Samsung fails to recognize the importance that hardware and software should be synergistic.

Tell that to people who have an iPhone more than a couple of years old who experience poor and sluggish performance.
Honestly I might just end up buying the 7 plus used.. Since it has 3GB RAM, will get iOS 11, which will eliminate the 32bit baggage.. And it’s pretty much the same thing as the 8 or 8x (I like all my jailbroken tweaks with Touch ID like bio security)… Pretty lame.. I guess it will save my wallet though..
It’ll be interesting to see how many iPhone 7 users will upgrade.
I suspect the X will have its fair share of issues. I would want to avoid participating in a class action lawsuit against Apple unless absolutely necessary.
I will wait for iPhone 9 Plus to come out next year. My 7 Plus is still good enough.

Perfect!!! My iPhone 6 is really showing signs of aging…looks like I’ll be getting the iPhone 8 plus this time as opposed to being the smaller version.
I really miss the battery power of the Plus compared to this Regular. Might have to sacrifice the sweet cupholder size and go Plus again.
