Hate the iPhone X’s ‘Notch?’ There’s An App For That

Apple’s iPhone X is the most stunning handset the company has produced yet. However, some sections of the Cupertino fan base weren’t so happy with what has been baptized the “notch.”

Now, there’s an app for those folks. According to a new report from The Verge, a new app called Notch Remover is designed to modify your iPhone X wallpaper to make it appear like the notch has been removed from the smartphone.

Having just been approved by Apple earlier today, Notch Remover attempts to address the cosmetic appearance of the iPhone X by modifying your chosen wallpaper to draw less attention to the top of the device. Essentially, the app achieves this by blacking out a strip at the top of the wallpaper, creating the illusion of a more traditionally shaped screen in the process.

As can be seen in the above image, the app does not eliminate the time or the connectivity and battery indicators located in the “ears” either side of the sensor housing.

It is priced at $0.99 USD and has been approved by Apple, even though the company has urged developers to make apps that adapt to the notch.

The phone sports a 5.8-inch OLED display and is powered by the company’s A11 Bionic processor. It features a 12MP dual camera setup at the back and a 7MP front-facing camera.

Charging $1 for an app that makes a black bar on the top of an image? That’s either an incredibly exploitative move, or an incredibly smart one…

Yeah, but when viewing photos or videos the app does nothing. We’ll have to wait for a jailbreak to actually fix it.

I read comments complaining about the notch. I read the outrage online in some corners of the internet. All I can think is – First World Problems.

That’s insane! if it bothers people that much they can pop their pic into photoshop or another editing program and put a black bar at the top of their photo lol.

Not fixing the notch, just making it bigger and stretching it across the screen.
I don’t even notice it anymore as it only houses the status bar, everything else scales just fine.

Now if someone could figure out a way to hide the damn notch in apps as well.

Honestly it’s not even an issue! You notice it for about five minutes when you first get it, you quickly forget about it! I haven’t met one person that has complained about it in person. I’m beginning to think those that complain are those still waiting to get one.
