Public Mobile Users: Major Change Coming After June 3

Telus-owned Public Mobile has started informing customers that upcoming network upgrades could affect their service.

In texts sent out this week seen by iPhone in Canada, the company warned that starting June 3, some users may experience a loss of connectivity or degraded signal quality due to infrastructure changes.

To help customers stay connected, Public Mobile announced a partnership with Telus offering exclusive access to 5G plans starting at $35 per month. This offer is available when customers activate a new device and enroll in autopay. Devices like the Moto G Play are available for $0 upfront, with a $0 monthly device cost (you’ll likely need to sign on for two years with Telus).

Customers interested in redeeming this offer are directed to visit their nearest Telus store and use the provided one-time use promo code at checkout. Public Mobile also gave a list of stores where you can get these phone upgrades.

Public Mobile says you can contact customer support if you need more help and the offer is subject to approved credit, available while quantities last, and includes standard terms and conditions.

Rogers is penalizing 3G users with $3/month and a $75 fee if they don’t upgrade by June 2025.

Public Mobile is nudging users with vague warnings and offering Telus 5G deals. The Telus 3G network is speculated to be phasing out soon, which is why Public Mobile is offering these 5G phone upgrade deals. Back in April 2024, Public Mobile removed its 3G plan offerings, just like Bell-owned Lucky Mobile as well.

Public Mobile says not all VoLTE-capable phones are certified across all service providers. These are the devices certified for VoLTE on Public Mobile, according to the company:
