Rogers Offers Free iPhone to Shaw Customer After 3G Shutdown
Just over two weeks ago, a Reddit user claimed Rogers was offering a free iPhone 14 to select former Shaw Mobile customers as part of its 3G network shutdown. Some users were skeptical, calling it “too good to be true” or a potential scam — but the original poster has now followed up with proof.
“Instead of replying to each post, I decided to post my first bill since the free phone upgrade here,” wrote the user. “Yes the phone is free, I didn’t get scammed, they waived all setup fee, and credited the iPhone charges.”
The user explained that they received an email from Rogers stating their older 3G phone would be affected by the shutdown. When they called customer support, they were immediately offered a list of free phone options, including both new and refurbished models.
“I chose iPhone 14 used and it arrived today in mint condition! Couldn’t be happier. Thank you Rogers!”
The customer said they were previously with Shaw on a $0/month grandfathered plan, using a $90 Umidigi A5 Pro from Amazon. After switching to Rogers, they were able to keep the same plan — which includes 1GB of data per month, unlimited calls and texts, and $10/GB for additional data.
“I have to pay for taxes which ended up being $3.xx per month for 24 months,” they said. “If I leave before 24 months, I have to pay for the remainder of the cost but since my Shaw grandfathered price is for more than 2 years, it wasn’t a concern.”
While the user acknowledged that a “bait and switch” is always possible, they added, “I recorded the call so protected myself as much as I could.”
One of the other phone options offered was the Motorola Edge 2024, according to the post.
“I know everyone bashes Roger’s (myself included) but I thought I’d post a positive experience for once,” the user said. Check out images of their Rogers bill below showing the free iPhone 14 with $0 financing:

And here’s the grandfathered $0 Shaw plan with 1GB data (Canada-US talk, text, data) and unlimited talk and text on the Rogers bill. It’s listed at $50, but gets $50 in credits and also $28.50/month in credits for financing the iPhone 14. Data overages are $10/1GB though:

A grandfathered $0 Shaw plan with a free iPhone 14? That’s a pretty good deal but it sounds like a rare offer. Did you get offered a free iPhone from Rogers if you’re a former Shaw Mobile customer?
Earlier this week, we told you the Rogers has now fully removed the Shaw website, as it now redirects to Rogers.com.

"One" Reddit user?! As far as the bill goes, thank you AI.
AI?
Ok, sure but those screenshots clearly show that the phone is FREE in 2027 not currently. And why is Rogers charging you $31.93/month in financing charges is the phone is really "FREE"?
So yeah, of course the phone is free in 2027 because you paid it off. 🤣
