Fido and Virgin Plus Drop $49 Roaming Plans to Fight Koodo, but Freedom is Still Cheaper
The competition among Canada’s flanker brands is heating up just in time for spring break. Koodo was the first ‘Big 3’ flanker brand to launch a Canada-US-Mexico roaming plan, but now Fido and Virgin Plus have followed suit, begrudgingly.
In a move to grab the attention of travellers, both Fido and Virgin Plus are undercutting Koodo’s price by a single dollar. These new roaming plans come ahead of spring break travel set to take place in March. As of January 22, 2026, Fido and Virgin Plus are offering their new three-country roaming plans for $49 per month with 60GB of data for those who bring their own device and use autopay.
Koodo Responds with Data Boosts
Koodo has not sat still while its rivals moved in. While their roaming plan is $1 more expensive than the competition, they have significantly improved their other offerings. The $35 for 10GB and $40 for 60GB plans are now cheaper than they were just a few weeks ago. Most notably, Koodo has replaced its old $50 for 40GB plan with a much larger $50 for 80GB option. This is a massive jump in data for the same price point that was available on January 9.
Check out the new plans launched by Fido, Virgin Plus and Koodo as of January 22, 2026 (bring your own device and after autopay):
Fido
- $45/10GB
- $49/60GB Canada-US-Mexico (new)
- $55/60GB
Gone is the $50/40GB plan that was available earlier this month.
Virgin Plus
- $45/10GB
- $49/60GB Canada-US-Mexico (new)
- $50/40GB
- $55/60GB
Koodo
- $35/10GB (was $45)
- $40/60GB (was $55)
- $50/60GB Canada-US-Mexico (was $55 and had no roaming)
- $50/80GB (was 40GB)
- $75/100GB
Gone is the $50/40GB plan and new is the $50/80GB plan, which used to only have 40GB on January 9.
It’s worth noting we’ve seen Koodo offer its Canada-US-Mexico plan as low as $30 during Black Friday and beyond, so that is when you should really be jumping on a new cellphone plan.
Also, Telus-owned Public Mobile has a $50/100GB Canada-US-Mexico plan right now, while Freedom Mobile has a $45/75GB Canada-US-Mexico plan, which is cheaper than the rest.
