OpenAI to Raise More Funding at Valuation of Over $100 Billion: Report

ChatGPT creator OpenAI is set to raise billions in a new round of funding at a staggering valuation of more than $100 billion USD, according to a new report from The Wall Street Journal.
Per people with knowledge of the discussions, the funding round will be led by venture capital firm Thrive Capital, which reportedly plans on investing around $1 billion in the artificial intelligence startup. Tech giants Nvidia and Apple have also been in talks to join the financing round, the sources said. Tech giant Microsoft, which is already billions-deep into a partnership with OpenAI, will participate as well.
OpenAI heralded the age of generative AI with its prized chatbot ChatGPT, which responds to user prompts in a contextually-aware, natural conversion-like manner. The company has seen its valuation skyrocket right alongside ChatGPT’s meteoric rise in the world. In comparison, OpenAI conducted a funding round at a valuation of $29 billion last year.
OpenAI continues to expand both the AI space as a whole and its footprint within it, with new products like Sora and its GPT-4o AI model, alongside upcoming offerings like SearchGPT.
The AI giant is also entering fruitful partnerships with other companies, including a new collaboration with Apple that will see ChatGPT integrated into the iPhone maker’s devices starting with iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia later this fall.
Earlier this year, OpenAI established a Safety and Security Committee to oversee the responsible development of AI. The company also plans to launch a Windows version of its desktop ChatGPT app (which is already available on macOS) later this year.
