Fido Launches Canada-US Roaming Plans–But With a Catch
The flanker brands of Rogers, Telus, and Bell have yet to match the Canada-US data roaming plans from Freedom Mobile (aside from Public Mobile). But that has changed as of today.
Fido has updated its website on Thursday to now include Fido Roam with select plans, but only for a limited time.
Here’s what’s available right now as part of the Fido plan lineup:
- $39/20GB
- $45/60GB + long distance to 7 countries + 30 days free Fido Roam in US
- $55/80GB + long distance to 7 countries + 90 days free Fido Roam in US
Fido Roam lets you use talk, text and data from your existing plan in the United States. Previously, we’ve seen flanker brands offer U.S. calling and texting but that’s not something very enticing.
As of writing, Telus’ Koodo and Bell’s Virgin Plus have yet to match Fido. That of course will likely change shortly.
Koodo plans as of today:
- $39/20GB
- $44/60GB
- $54/80GB
Virgin Plus plans as of today:
- $39/20GB
- $45/60GB
The Fido Roam offer only applies to new activations and is only good for the first 30 days and first 90 days of the respective plans. This is kind of crazy because if you’re not planning to visit the U.S. in that timeframe, the perk is totally useless.
Recently, Rogers and Fido increased its connection fee to $75, charged when you need a human to activate or renew a plan.

"During the first 30 days of activation"
Ah, no point in that. Just go to Freedom and roam in awesome, warm, paradise countries compare to constant winter canada.
Thailand
Colombia
Brazil
Mexico
Cuba
Greece
Portugal
Spain
You'll thank me once you've left Canada.
There's actually 90+ countries for Freedom to roam
Yep, even better, I was just highlighting some of the warmer, happier and healthier ones 🙂
That first paragraph does not make any sense. Yeah Public Mobile already has better plans than this. I am on PM and 5G performance is great in Manitoba.
Only for the first 30 days?!? Completely useless then compared to Public or Freedom.
