Freedom Mobile iPhones Finally Get the 5G+ Icon—Here’s When You’ll See It

Freedom Mobile customers are now seeing the 5G+ icon on their iPhones for the first time, appearing with iOS 26.2 Beta 1, released today for developers. The change shows up under Carrier Version 66.5.2.

Some users report that after updating to the public version of iOS 26.1, they received a carrier settings update prompt in Settings → About, which may enable the 5G+ indicator.

The move puts Freedom in line with Canada’s other major carriers. Bell and Virgin and Rogers and Fido first introduced the 5G+ icon in iOS 16.4 back in 2023, while Telus and Koodo followed with iOS 17.4 in March 2024. Public Mobile later gained the icon in October 2024.

The new 5G+ branding typically appears in areas where carriers offer access to faster mid-band 5G networks, signalling expanded performance for compatible iPhone users.

The icon is for iPhone 16 and above on Freedom Mobile. That’s because Apple has a requirement where the 5G+ icons need 40 MHz or higher, which their 3800 MHz goes over the threshold.

Freedom Mobile first started rolling out 3800 MHz 5G+ like Rogers, Telus and Bell last year. To get the fastest speeds you’ll need a compatible smartphone and plan that supports 5G+.
