What to Expect From Apple’s October Event ‘Unleashed’

Earlier this week, Apple announced the ‘Unleashed’ special event for October 18. Apple is rumoured to showcase updates to its Mac line and the macOS platform, alongside other announcements and reveals.

From what we know so far, here’s what you can expect Apple to unveil at the event:

M1X-Powered 14″ and 16″ MacBook Pro Models

The stars of Monday’s show are all but confirmed to be new 14″ and 16″ MacBook Pro models, with next-generation ‘M1X’ Apple Silicon under the hood, a slight design update, and MagSafe charging ports making a comeback.

The new MacBook Pro models will both come with mini-LED displays, with the added possibility of high refresh rate screens. The macOS Monterey beta revealed screen resolutions for both upcoming models: “3456 x 2234 Retina” for the 16-incher, and “3024 x 1964 Retina” for the 14-incher.

Recent leaks also point towards the new MacBooks being accompanied by price hikes.

Mac mini

The new MacBook Pro models may not be the only M1X-toting devices Apple announces come Monday — the company is also rumoured to unveil a higher-end successor to the M1 Mac mini, powered by its next-generation in-house silicon and featuring an updated I/O design with more ports on the rear.

Logic dictates that Apple will also announce an official release date for macOS Monterey, currently in beta, as the new MacBook Pro models will presumably ship with it out of the box.

AirPods 3

According to leaks and rumours, Apple will likely be revealing third-generation AirPods at Monday’s ‘Unleashed’ event. AirPods 3 will mark the first major refresh to the design of Apple’s wireless earbuds since 2019’s AirPods Pro.

The third-generation AirPods will take design inspiration from the AirPods Pro, and replace the second-generation AirPods. The new design aims to bridge the aesthetic gap between the base AirPods and the more premium AirPods Pro, with ‘Pro’ features like Active Noise Cancellation still reserved for Apple’s higher-end offering.

As always, the company could end up throwing a curve-ball or two our way as well, but likely the presentation will last 1 to 1.5 hours.

Apple’s ‘Unleashed’ event kicks off Monday, October 18 at 1 pm EDT/10 am PDT. Check out our guide on how you can tune into the event live.
