iPhones with 3D Cameras

According to unnamed sources, next iPhones are said to have a “more-powerful 3-D camera as soon as next year, in what is supposedly a plan to go deeper into augmented reality efforts.

Bloomberg says a longer-range 3D camera on the rear is said to work up to 15 feet from an iPhone, scanning the room and creating 3D images.

The alleged system also will deploy a laser scanner for longer distances to better capture depth, while a third camera will also be part of the setup, along with upgraded processors and photo-taking tools, said to be coming in next versions of iPhones, say sources.

Apple’s plans for a 3D camera system were pegged for 2019 iPhones, but this has apparently been delayed.

Sony may supply sensors for this new system, note sources, as Apple has been in talks with the Japanese company.

2019 iPhone Lineup – with USB-C?

Apple will release upgraded models of the iPhone XR, iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max in 2019, claim sources, codenamed D42 and D43 for the latter two high-end models. The successor to the iPhone XS Max is said to include three cameras in the back, say people familiar with the matter.

The third camera on an iPhone is said to help capture a larger field of view and wider zoom, while also capture more pixels. Apple also plans to have Live Photos upgraded, which would increase video length from 3 to 6 seconds.

Apple is also testing USB-C on this year’s iPhone models, as previously rumoured. 2019 iPhone models are said to have an upgraded processor plus a new version of Face ID, but design-wise, will look the same as 2018 models. More radical changes are said to come in 2020, when Apple will reportedly launch an iPhone with a 5G modem.

Earlier this month, alleged renders leaked showing an iPhone camera system with three cameras.

New iPad Pro with 3D Camera and Updated iPad and iPad mini

As for this rumoured laser-powered 3D camera system, sources say it could debut on a refresh of Apple’s iPad Pro, said to be coming as early as the spring of 2020.

Also, Apple’s entry iPad is said to get a refresh this spring with “a roughly 10-inch screen” along with a faster processor, while keeping its Lightning port, say sources. The current screen size is 9.7-inches.

As for Apple’s iPad mini, a new version is coming which is said to be cheaper, the first major update since 2015, say these people familiar with the matter.

iOS 13 with Dark Mode

As for iOS 13, which is expected to make its debut again at WWDC this year, Bloomberg is reporting it will include a long-awaited dark mode, similar to what is available with macOS Mojave, while CarPlay is said to get new improvements as well.

iOS 13 will bring new updates to the iPad, including a “new home screen, the ability to tab through multiple versions of a single app like pages in a web browser, and improvements to file management.”

Also integrated will be Apple’s rumoured magazine subscription service and original video content service as well, coming this year.
