Canadian iPhone 6s Pre-Order and Launch Guide

Unlocked iPhone 6s pre-orders go live tonight at 12:01AM PDT/3:01AM EDT on Apple.ca, while carriers such as Rogers, TELUS and Bell will follow suit shortly afterwards (MTS and SaskTel most likely will launch later).

Iphone 6s preorder

With the pre-order set to go live on Apple.ca in just over 6 hours, here’s a quick and dirty guide that answers some of the same pre-order and launch questions we get every year.

What does the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus cost unlocked from Apple?

iPhone 6s

  • 16GB – $899
  • 64GB – $1029
  • 128GB – $1159

iPhone 6s Plus

  • 16GB – $1029
  • 64GB – $1159
  • 128GB – $1289

AppleCare+ prices for iPhone 6s–click here.

Shipping is free of course; customers are limited to 2 models each (if history repeats itself). You have 15 days to return the phone (free returns) if you’re not happy with it.
Pre-ordering from Apple using the Apple Store iOS App

Set your alarm for 10 minutes before 12:01AM PDT/3:01AM EDT, as that’s when the fun begins (and your credit card cries). Download the Apple Store iOS app and get ready to make your purchase once the pre-order window goes live.

It’s been the fastest and one of the most reliable ways to pre-order Apple products thus far. Even Apple thinks so, as they are advertising the app’s magical buying powers in the App Store right now:

Screenshot 2015 09 11 17 08 27

If you’re reading this before the Apple Store goes down, setup your payment method online now, so when you do make your pre-order, you don’t need to fill out a credit card, but just enter in the security code. Just click here to go your Account and add your payment method.

Looks like the store is down already:

If you have multiple iOS devices, have them ready with the Apple Store app signed in and ready. If you encounter an “unavailable” error (like people experienced last year), read up and try this trick that worked for us.

Pre-ordering from Apple.ca

You can also pre-order the traditional way on the web too. What some people do is download a web browser plugin that refreshes a web page constantly on its own. This allows you to sit back, while the browser extension constantly refreshes the Apple Online Store until it goes online.

Again, once the store goes online, click quickly and make your selections. If you made a mistake, don’t worry, you can cancel it the next day or earlier. Just CHECK OUT and let Apple TAKE YOUR MONEYYY!

Reserve and Pick Up from Apple.ca [UPDATE]

Reserve and Pick Up is available this year via Apple’s website or the Apple Store iOS app. The specific reservation link from last year doesn’t work, as Apple has made unique links generated only when you add a specific model to your cart and click on the Reserve and Pick Up link:

Pre-ordering from Rogers, TELUS and Bell

The ‘Big 3’ had online reservation systems for iPhone 6 last year, and should have them again this year. Here were last year’s start times:

What does the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus cost on contract?

Rogers – iPhone 6s

16GB – $398.99
64GB – $528.99
128GB – $658.99

iPhone 6s Plus

16GB – $528.99
64GB – $658.99
128GB – $788.99

Fido – iPhone 6s

16GB – $399 ($899 outright)
64GB – $529 ($1,029 outright)
128GB – $659 ($1159 outright)

iPhone 6s Plus

16GB – $529 ($1,029 outright)
64GB – $659 ($1,159 outright)
128GB – $789 ($1,289 outright)

Bell/Virgin – iPhone 6s

16GB – $398.99 ($914.99 outright)
64GB – $528.99 ($1054.99 outright)
128GB – $658.99 ($1194.99 outright)

iPhone 6s Plus

16GB – $528.99 ($1054.99 outright)
64GB – $658.99 ($1194.99 outright)
128GB – $788.99 ($1334.99 outright)

TELUS – iPhone 6s

16GB – $400 ($900 outright)
64GB – $530 ($1,030 outright)
128GB – $660 ($1160 outright)

iPhone 6s Plus

16GB – $530 ($1,030 outright)
64GB – $660 ($1,160 outright)
128GB – $790 ($1,290 outright)

Essentially, the prices are the same across the board, give or take $1. Rogers and Bell require a minimum $80 per month plan for a 2-year subsidy, while TELUS requires a minimum $70 per month plan on contract.

Other stores that offer iPhone 6s reservations [Update]

Try the following stores for pre-orders as well:

  • Best Buy: pre-orders now available in-store, $50 deposit required
  • Wireless Wave: they took Rogers and Bell pre-orders last year for iPhone 6; $50 refundable deposit
  • Costco Wireless Kiosks: some took unofficial pre-order lists with pen and paper
  • Other stores to try: London Drugs, The Mobile Shop within Real Canadian Superstores, Tbooth Wireless, any Glentel chain, Walmart, Target, The Source, Staples, etc

When will I receive my iPhone 6s pre-order? [Update]

The iPhone 6s launch takes place on September 25, 2015. That’s when you’ll receive your iPhone if you live within Zone 1 delivery areas according to Apple’s delivery map. This time around, Apple wants you to enter your postal code via this link ONLY if you have a ship date of 9/25-9/29, to tell you when your phone will arrive:

when will iphone arrive

Update: Here’s how to track your iPhone 6s order and get your UPS tracking number.

If you pre-ordered through Rogers, TELUS or Bell, delivery depends on how much stock they receive.

If you’ve made it this far, good for you. We are repeating some information from last year, so take a look at that guide here to have some more questions answered.

Awesome guide again, Gary and team. Are you guys upgrading to this phone? I’ve always done the non “S” variants on a two year cycle, starting with the 3G, then 4, 5, 6 Plus. I’ve never been superbly tempted to jump ship on my cycle and grab any of the S phones, but this one seems to be a bit of a better upgrade compared to past models. Anyone see it the same way or completely opposite?

Secondly, is Kijiji or other direct sale methods still the best way to go, if I wanted to sell my perfect condition, unlocked 6 Plus 128gb? Most of the trade-in sites just don’t seem to offer top dollar. This is old news and I’m pretty versed in selling, but I’m just hoping that there’s something new that I’m missing.

Thanks!!

For top dollar Kijiji really is still the way to go. Orchard (app you can get from app store) is offering okay amounts but still not as good as Kijiji. I got offered $656 for 128gb 6.

That depends on where you live, but Kij is pretty much dead in Vancouver. Craig’s is the best place to advertise locally (as well as some forums like RFD or Howard’s).

Oh really, Craigs is dead creepy in Calgary or for women it is at least. Had to stop using it way too many weirdo’s. Maybe it’s improved this was 5 years ago.

I haven’t experienced any creeps out here. A couple of no-show’s and looky-loo’s when I sold my car, but no wierdo’s. One thing I noticed is that most of buyers of my Apple stuff (iPads, macbook, and previous iPhone’s) were mainly younger girls who were in college, and picked up at my home.

In Montreal Kijiji is the way to go. It’s really fantastic. Sold a ton of stuff on there. I guess it depends on where you are.

Yes we’re going to the iPhone 6s Plus.

Depends on how badly you want to be an early adopter 😉

Kijiji and Craigslist definitely can get a higher dollar. You just gotta be smart about it, like Magrat22 said, meet in a public place, maybe bring a friend if you need to. Ignore the lowballers and tire kickers.

I just sold two of my 6 plus 128gb unlocked on kijiji – went very smooth. Got $900 a piece. I think I did ok. That means my cost of owning the phone was .51c a day (355 days). Hope preorder goes smooth. I’d rather do instore pickup and delivery.

I usually use Ebay because I’m weary of dealing with kijiji buyers. What do you do to ensure you get the $$$ and don’t get scammed/robbed? thanks!

I meet them in front of an apple store, public place. and i hold the phone and accessories and show it to them. They don’t touch the phone until they’ve handed me the money.I’ve sold on ebay as well but there are SO many scammers on ebay. Stressful going through a paypal chargeback.

Yeah I agree, I do this as well actually find Second Cup a great place to meet. I do let them look at it but I’m really careful with my vetting process initially. I only use email and a special kijiji email address I set up. I then put a word at the end of the ad that I ask them to say when replying so I know they read the whole thing. Because too many TL:DR people 😛 Never had a problem.

Can you be more specific in how you word your ad? That sounds like an interesting idea, but still not clear on the execution. Thanks!

Sure, I do a really good job at advertising the phone well, like I clean it up and put it in good lighting to take the pictures. Then put the full specs in tech and as much as possible non-tech jargon. I keep it as short as I can it’s not a novel but it’s not two lines either. At the end it’ll write: “If you’ve read to here please reply with ‘Sharknado’ in the subject line of your message. I figure if they’ve taken the time to actually read to the bottom then they look at the pictures too and I avoid the whole. So how much space is there? Can I see pics of it? What colour is it? Crap that I used to get before I started the ‘word’ 🙂

Ron

So what do you do if they don’t reply with ‘Sharknando’ in their message? Ignore the potential buyer?

Magrat22

Yes, it may sound silly but I’m an early adopter in most things or used to be so I sold my old tech on Kij very often and found those that didn’t read the full ad where just time wasters. They ask questions that are all in the ad it’s time wasting and I’m a very busy person!! 🙂

Steve

That’s kind of suspect. Smart people actually want to place their sim in the phone and test it out first. I haven’t met one person that just forked over the cash without testing it.

You’re probably ten times more likely to get scammed on eBay, then on Kij or CL. Nothing beats a local cash in-person transaction. If paranoid, just meet at a public place. I usually just get them to pickup at my house, as it usually gives the buyer a bit of assurance that they won’t get scammed by a dead or faulty product.

That’s too cheap. I managed to get $1100 for my 6 Plus 128, and sold within 2 days of advertising. The girl picked up at my house first thing in the morning lol.

Hard to know without knowing your plan but for me with Rogers I had to move to a plan that was at least $80 and I know Telus you have to be on a plan that’s at least $70.

Matt

Who ever wrote this ad, got the pricing structure way off the band wagon, as I talked to bell, the phones are 1289 plus tax out of contract for the 128 gig 6S plus, and the subsidy for a phone on a 2 year plan is 611$ which means the phone cost is 678 plus tax, so unless these prices listed are taxes in…which my math shows they are not, then whomever gotten this info is way way way off the bandwagon

Alan Yau

Reply to  Kirk

This is how I do the math every year to get an upgrade at minimal or no cost:
– iPhone 6 upgrade with Rogers Sept/2014 = $480 device balance
– Sept 2015, remaining device balance = $240
– Sell iPhone 6 64GB with AppleCare = $800 (Sold it a couple of weeks ago for max value and since I had time, I didn’t negotiate with potential buyers. Phone was in like new condition, having never been out of a case and with a tempered glass screen protector from day 1)
– iPhone 6s 64GB upgrade = $529 + $240 (device balance) = $769
– I have 5000 Rogers reward points, so -$50 = $719
= $719 + taxes = $805.28
– So I have an upgrade for $5.28 out of pocket and I will shell out the extra for AppleCare again to ensure max value next year.
I have done the same thing since the iPhone 4 and I have had years where I have paid $50 extra to cover the cost, and years where I came out ahead.

Kirk
Kirk
Reply to  Alan Yau

That’s good for you Alan. I guess I consider myself a pack rat because since the iPhone 3G I never considered selling my phone, I like to keep each of them (still have original packing) so if I did exactly what you described I could probably upgrade.. But I also like buying it straight from apple and not locked to a carrier (I know it can possibly be jail broken). At the end of the day my phone plan is one of those day one 6GB super plans that I will never cancel and they will force me to do that if I go with any upgrades which I don’t want to do anyway. So to each their own. It’s a great phone tho. 🙂

Alan Yau

I totally get that and in fact, the person that bought my 6 has one of those plans he didn’t want to lose and paying the $800 made sense. I have a corporate discount code on my account that takes a 6GB Share Everything plan down to $87. I get reimbursed through work anyways, so I have no issue with losing my old 6gb retention plan.

However, I did consider buying outright this year to get the $20/month BYOD discount and making up the difference that way.

Usually after the launch, the will make the later available… Usually after 9pm (when store close usually), you click on the link and you can book for the day after based on stocks.

Rogers doesn’t seem to ever have had good 6S stock (only the 16gb Rose Gold), so ended up doing the Reserve and Pick-Up for the 6s 64gb Space Grey. I put down that I wanted “Carrier Option” vs Unlocked. Question for people who have done this before: do they still sell me an unlocked phone (ie. $1029) but just help me setup the phone to work with my carrier? Or can you actually buy it from Apple this way with the subsidized price with Rogers (and thus it will be locked to Rogers)?

Actually I know see on Rogers that rather than go to device reservation, they show the hone 6s and 6s plus as devices you can upgrade to. It does say that “phone will ship after manufacturer’s official launch date”. They seem to have stock of all the 6s phones (which is weird that it doesn’t sync up with the Device Reservation page which only shows the 16gb Rose Gold in 6S)

The phones are unlocked but then are activated and locked to the carrier of your choosing (Rogers)

I preordered the 64GB 6S in Rose Gold last night and selected the option of picking it up in store. It seems like it went through, and I got an email saying the phone was reserved. However, when I go into the Apple store app and click on “reservations”, it says my account doesn’t currently have any reservations in place. Is this happening to anyone else??

I bet that is genius bar reservations only. If you got the email saying you are confirmed for in store pickup, you are golden.

Yes, I just checked in my app too and see the same and am quite sure if you made a genius bar reservation for some made up problem, you’ll see it in there. In store pickup for iphones is a special thing.

Either there is way more stock than last year, or the low CAD really took a bite in demand. I reserved a silver 6s Plus at 8 this morning after finding out you could actually do the reserve and pick-up thing with a carrier contract. There was stock all over the place.

I have a feeling both is right… but also having pre-order and launch 2 weeks apart (usually it’s only 1 week) might well for stock.

Do you know if picking up with Carrier Contract means you pay the subsidized price and get a locked phone to that carrier? Or are you still buying an unlocked phone at unlocked price, but they help you get the phone set up and activated with your carrier?

You are paying the subsidized price, meaning you pay nothing at the Apple Store, your carrier will charge you on your account on your next bill. I’ve done it this way since 2010. It’s way more pleasant than dealing with the carriers directly in their stores.

Thanks for the quick response. In that case, do they have enough stock for locked phones for each carrier or lock them to the carrier then and there? They didn’t ask in the reservation process which carrier I was with…? Thanks again

They don’t actually get locked until they get activated, all the phones are essentially the same until you activate them with your carrier.

Sweet! I was curious as to how it worked! I’ve never reserved and picked up in store. Kinda surprised that I didn’t know it existed lol. Looking forward to moving up from my 5. Apple Store experience is always so much better than carrier stores. Oh, so I have a silly question then: do our reservations guarantee that we will get a phone? I reserved mine for after work and keep wondering if there’s a chance they’ll just sell out. It’s paranoia, really. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Jessica – yes there’ll be a device waiting for you since you reserved in store. If you got the confirmation email then you’re good to go!!

Guy & Gals – I got my order in for a 64GB Rose gold 6S Plus first thing, pick up @ 8am, and then got another 128GB Space Grey 6S Plus to be picked up @ 8:30am both at The Apple Store @ Square 1 in Mississauga. Do you think i’ll be able to get both at my initial 8am pick up time slot

Probably. It’s just a way to minimize how many people are there in each time slot. Since they are already helping you, it’s trivial to add another phone to checkout and it just makes the next timeslot less busy.

I miss the iphone 6s plus rose gold order last night. If I want to buy from
kijiji, should I request receipt from the seller? How do the transfer of
warranty work? Do the warranty go with the seller or with the phone ? Any
advice?

Warranty is with the phone’s serial number. No need for a receipt.

I got the reserve and pickup. When you go to the store to pickup, do you have the option to sign up for a plan and get it subsidized or is it unlocked only from the apple store?

Gary

The website gave an option for both when you set it up. If you change your mind it shouldn’t be a problem.

okay perfect. I selected the ‘with carrier’ plan but wasn’t sure what exactly that meant. Thanks!

As Sunday morning, the iPhone 6s, 6splus are sliding to 3-4 weeks wait…. But I’m very surprise u can still have some of them in most stores, for reserve and plick-up….

I’m hoping to get the Iphone 6 when the price drops. Any idea when that will likely happen with the major carriers?

Steve Belisle

Not going to happen soon… the iPhone 6 and 6 plus price were adjust according to the $Can exchange rate. Since the CAN$ lost 30% compare to the US$, so the usually 100$ price drop that you see after 1 year was cancelled by that adjustment…. 🙁

Telus is already showing a “sale” price on the 6 and 6+ it’s probably the best you’ll get.

I had pre-ordered through Rogers and Reserve/Pick-up at Apple store. I spoke to Rogers today and CSR said if your order is processed, that means they have the phone in atock and it will ship on the 25th. Also, pre-ordering online saves the $40 connection fee (which you would have to pay if buying through Apple).

As such, going to keep my order with Rogers (and receive phone likely on Monday Sep 28). The Apple reserve/pickup apparently can’t be cancelled online, so I guess I just don’t show up during my reservation time? Seems inefficient though, would think it’s better for Apple to know i’m not coming…

They’ll most likely ship it out on the 24th so you’ll get it on the 25th.

You already made your choice when you reserved. If you didn’t pick in store pickup, do not go to a store expecting to get a phone.
